Cynoscion leiarchus

Although the name in Portuguese says the fish is branca (“white”), the scales are silver. Commonly found off the Brazilian coast, from the North to the Southeast region, it is usually sold whole in farm markets and fishmongers, measuring about 14 inches, or cut into fillets. The flesh is white and lean, has few bones, and can be roasted, but more often it is grilled with a drizzle of oil, or breaded and deep fried.
