fried: this is the classic technique used to prepare this small freshwater fish of the Astynax genus, popularly known as tetra. The crispy snack pairs perfectly with cold beer. Inhabiting rivers, lakes and dams all over the country, lambari is 4-6 inches long, on average. It is also known in Portuguese as piaba or piabinha in the Northeast, and as matupiri or matupira in the North regions. Even with the simplest equipment, fishing lambari can be a super fun activity, for adults and children alike.
