The second most populous city of Acre – second only to the capital, Rio Branco –, Cruzeiro do Sul is reputed to produce a flaked manioc flour of excellent quality, well toasted and crisp, with slightly sweet flavor and grainy texture. To ensure quality, the farmers of Território da Cidadania do Vale do Juruá, which encompass the municipalities of Cruzeiro, Mâncio Lima, Rodrigues Alves, Marechal Thaumaturgo and Porto Valter, make sure the product is made only with manioc harvested one year after planting and on the same day the flour is prepared (a day called “farinhada”).
