Toasted, salted or unsalted, it is a good snack and adds a crunchy touch to green salads. But the sweet and buttery flavor also goes well in breads, cakes and other pastries and confections. Compared to walnuts, pecans have a longer, more flattened shape. The cultivation in Brazil started in the South region, in the 1940s, using seedlings coming from the United States and Canada. Today, the production is concentrated in Rio Grande do Sul and some municipalities in western Paraná. But the harvest meets only 30% of the country’s market, the rest is imported.
