Xylopia xylopioides
In flavor and culinary use, it resembles monkey pepper, another species of the genus Xylopia − a word meaning “bitter wood”. Slightly spicy, with a hint of cinnamon, imbiriba is good to aromatize sweet preparations, such as jams and chocolates. Also called embiriba and iquiriba in Portuguese, it can also be used to flavor cachaça.
